Martial Arts Tournament Award Planner
Enter the number of divisions and the pieces each one awards, then add referee, coach or sponsor pieces and any spares. Where sparring gives two third places, a division needs four pieces, not three. The Dojo Award Studio planner totals what you type. It does not draw brackets, and your event rules decide who receives an award.
Build your plan
For pairs or team prizes, include every individual piece in the per-division count. Use the quantity calculator for a separate participation batch.
The decision behind a martial arts division award order
Placement awards, rank recognition and instructor appreciation need different wording. A division name should be understood by the recipient after the event, including the approved discipline and level where needed. Confirm medal sets and presentation plaques as separate quantities.
Keep with your brief: Discipline, division, placement and approved rank wording.

Count a keepsake for every team member
Four divisions each recognize three two-person teams. Both members receive a piece, so the per-division entry is 3 × 2 = 6. Add two sponsor plaques and no spares.

Divisions × (awarded places per division × physical pieces per place), plus other pieces and spares
The example requires 26 pieces: 24 player awards and two sponsor plaques. It does not create a tournament bracket or decide the event’s award rules. Use the organizer-approved results and category names to prepare the inscription roster after the event format is settled.
How do you count forms and sparring with different podiums?
A director runs six forms divisions and six sparring divisions. Forms award three places. Sparring awards four pieces, because both losing semifinalists take third. The planner accepts one per-division figure, so she runs it twice. First run: six divisions, three pieces each, plus two Dojo Recognition & Instructor Plaque pieces for the chief referees. That returns twenty. Second run: six divisions, four pieces each, no extras. That returns twenty-four. Her order is forty-four pieces in all: forty-two Martial Arts Tournament Trophy placements and two plaques. She sends Dojo Award Studio both runs with the division names, so the extra third-place trophies are engraved for the right category.
Check these details before using the result
- Entering three places for every division
- Check each category's rules. Sparring, grappling and team events often award a different number of pieces from forms.
- Counting team forms as one trophy
- If every member of a team takes a trophy home, the per-division figure is places times team size. Decide before totaling.
- Forgetting divisions split at check-in
- A large age group may be split into two rings. Decide in advance if a split creates a second set of placements.

Student of the Month Award
Name the reason for the recognition so the student knows what mattered. A monthly title plus one concrete contribution gives the award more meaning than repeating the same generic praise for every recipient.

Belt Rank Plaque
Use the exact rank terminology your school awards. A promotion plaque records an achievement; if you want to display a physical belt as well, specify its folded dimensions and request a holder in the design.

Does the planner create the brackets or seed competitors?
No. It only counts awards. Draws, seeding and ring assignments stay in your tournament software or on paper. Use the planner once the division list is fixed, so the divisions and places you enter match what will be called to the mat.
How should a division with only two entrants be handled?
Follow your published rules and enter that division separately. Some events still award first and second; others merge the pair into the nearest age or belt group. Run the planner for the full divisions, add the small one by hand, and note the rule on the list so the engraved labels match.
